It’s not really ideal to go golfing in the snow.
The views off the fairway look like something out of White Christmas, yes, but when the hole is snowy and you’re “putting” powder rather than the green, don’t expect to break any course records. And worst of all? Thanks to all the white stuff on the ground, you can’t tell the difference between a snowball and a golf ball until you thwack it.
Welcome to a snow-birdie’s nightmare; golf is canceled for the next few months.
That is, unless you take this “golden” opportunity to perfect your game at Rome’s newest business—Golden Ferret Golf Sims.
(Which funny enough, a group of ferrets is known as a business. All the better incentive to go with your friends!)
Every day from 10:00 AM until midnight, you can practice and play on over 250+ golf courses all without leaving home sweet Rome. Just bring your golf clubs to one of the three Golfzon TwovisionNX simulator bays, sign in, and swing.
As for scorekeeping, no need to hang onto pencils or use a paper card. Once you’ve created an account through GolfZon, you’re able to track your swing data as well as compare your game to other golfers. In fact, you can even participate in online tournaments with others outside of Rome.
Enough talking, now it’s time to step up to the plate—literally.
The dual swingplate tilts up, down, and side to side to mirror the course’s slopes along with four distinct hitting surfaces that mimic rough, green, fairway bunker and greenside bunker.
Flimsy tees are a thing of the past; the auto tee-up feature has a fresh ball ready to go after each swing at your preferred height.
Sick of bending over or searching high and low for your ball? Allow the slanted ball retrieval system to take care of that problem. Once you’ve hit, the ball should roll back toward you, down a chute, and reappear when the tee-up activates.
After hitting, feel free to take a seat. Standard barstool-style chairs are available, but the real treat? Golf cart seating—the perfect option for spectating without killing the “on the course” vibes.
All that swinging can work up an appetite or make you thirsty. Thankfully, there’s a handy-dandy bar to your left, stocked with beer, wine, and your favorite canned beverages to sip while enjoying a pizza.
Not a golfer? Not a problem! Golden Ferret also has two dart boards and Diamond pool tables for you to play around at. When you’re ready for a break (or just finished a break), turn your attention to one of the 12 TVs situated around the room to watch “The Big Game” play out.
So perhaps I was wrong—golf can be ideally played in the snow, as long as you bring a change of shoes, clubs, and a bit of digital magic.
Now if only I could turn those snowy slices into something worth bragging about…
