Everything But the Kitchen Sink

Remember when Pritzl’s Trading Post was on the southwest corner of State Highway 13 and Alpine Drive in Rome, Wisconsin? Remember when you would go there and find just about anything you were looking for? Remember when they sold everything from fishing tackle to bird seed to water toys?

Kwik Trip, which now stands on that corner, is doing an amazing job of offering many of the same things that Pritzl’s did, including gas, groceries, fresh-brewed coffee, liquor, baked goods, and prepared foods. But what about the hunting and camping supplies, not to mention live bait?

Yeah, it sure was a sad day when Pritzl’s, all that selection, and all the fond times faded into memories when they closed their doors for the last time back in the winter of 2021.

Well don’t be sad anymore. It’s time to stop pining for what used to be and celebrate what is.

Because right next door to Kwik Trip, there’s a little shop that otherwise might go unnoticed, that is so full of goods and services, you’d expect it to be ten times its actual size. Welcome to Rome Outdoors. A store that fills the void left behind by Pritzl’s with everything from coolers to hats and gloves to fishing nets to fatheads, suckers, and chubs.

That’s right, if you’re looking for live bait, they got it. Fishing rods? They’re there. Boat and ATV batteries? T-shirts? Hardware? Keys? Yup, It’s all there. Even RV and marine toilet paper!

But that’s not all. Rome Outdoors is your one-stop shop for Gunderson Cleaners pick-up and delivery. You can get your hunting and fishing licenses there. Trail passes, county park stickers, burn permits, and ATV/UTV license plates. And so much more.

Even though this tiny store has more selection than you can imagine, Tim Mitchell, the entrepreneurial owner puts it this way; “I can’t be the next Pritzl’s, but I can give the town as big of a selection as possible in the space that I have.”

So, if you’re still a little bummed by the departure of Pritzl’s, don’t be. It’s all still there on the corner of State Highway 13 and Alpine Drive. In fact, do yourself a favor. Next time you pull into Kwik Trip, be sure to take a few minutes to stop in and see for yourself. Chances are Rome Outdoors will become your first stop next time.

Rome Outdoors is located in the same building as Kwik Trip at 251 State Hwy 13, Nekoosa, WI 54457.

NOTE:

Speaking of Tim Mitchell, this year he has the honor of heading up the committee responsible for hosting the 2024 Nekoosa Walleye Days. From March 23rd - April 14th, anglers of all skill levels will compete to reel in the biggest walleye with the winner taking home a fat $1,500 check.

The event is highlighted by the Jim Freeman Memorial Walleye Days Tournament on April 13th, and capped off by the Kids Fishing Day Tournament on April 14th.

For more information and to register, call Rome Outdoors at 715-715-0333, visit fornekoosa.org, or stop in the store during business hours.
