Eating Our Way Through Rome: The Lure Bar & Grill

This isn’t your ordinary bar on a lake. You’ll know it as you make your way around the circular drive and spy all the boats docked at the Barnum Bay Marina right next door on Lake Petenwell.

Nope. This bar and grill fully embodies “lake life” hook, line, and sinker. Adorned in fishnets, bobbers, and of course lures of all shapes and sizes, The Lure Bar & Grill is exactly what you’d describe if asked to describe the perfect place to eat and drink while sitting on the shores of Wisconsin’s second largest lake. Especially if you’re taking in a magnificent sunset from one of their oversized decks.

With two bars, each one big enough to share with everyone you ever met, and everyone you’re about to meet, the atmosphere is friendly, warm, and relaxed. As they like to say, “you may come in alone, but you won’t stay that way for long.”

The ambiance is indeed perfect, and so is the menu. For starters, you won’t go wrong with wings or nachos, but it might just be the Bada Bing Sweet Chili Shrimp or the Calamari with Marinara that keep people coming back time after time.

Try to pace yourself, though, because one of their most popular menu items, the Prime Rib Philly, is calling your name. Or maybe it's the ever-popular Fried Chicken and Baby Back Ribs combo.

Like any proper Wisconsin bar and grill, The Lure serves up a traditional Friday fish fry - succulent Atlantic cod, lightly breaded, and deep fried. But unlike others, they will also prepare it potato crusted and served with drawn butter. Add a couple of garlic sautéed shrimp, and you’ve got yourself a seafood feast you’ll be boasting about until your next visit - which might just be tomorrow.

The Lure Bar & Grill is located at 1735 Archer Lane in Rome, Wisconsin.
