The Vision

  • Safe spaces to walk, run and bike are needed for residents & visitors

  • Please note: No Motorized Vehicles are permitted to use the tunnel, trail or bridge. No ATVs, UTVs, Snowmobiles or Golf Carts are permitted.

    • Rome Town Center, Splash Pad, Farmers Market, Papa Bears Mini Golf, etc.

Construction Update (November 2025)

  • The tunnel, trail, and bridge is fully operational

  • Minor landscaping around the tunnel will be done in Spring 2026, including placement of the Sponsorship and Community Bricks

  • Exploring art work in the tunnel in conjunction with Nekoosa High School

Funding Update (July 2025)

  • To date, Visit Rome has funded 100% of the design work done by Jewell Associates Engineers totaling $195,584

    • Includes tunnel, trail and bridge detailed plans

    • Coordination with utilities

    • Permitting and coordination with WisDOT, the DNR and the County

    • Easements required

  • Construction Estimate is $1.5-$2.0 million

    • Includes tunnel, trail and bridge

    • Electric, gas and phone utility relocation

    • Hiring of a Project Manager to oversee construction

  • Construction Funding

    • A private grant for 50% of project costs (up to $1.0 million) awarded to Visit Rome in December 2024

    • Local business sponsorships of $109,500 received to date - goal of $100,000

    • Visit Rome cash reserves, $250,000-$500,000

  • Annual Maintenance Estimated at $5,000-$8,500
